Barbering is considered a separate profession from cosmetology in Arkansas, so you need to complete a specialized curriculum to qualify for licensure. You must complete at least 1,500 hours of training at a licensed Arkansas barber training program. The testing fee is $75. In Arkansas, you will need a license to become a barber, and go through the renewal process every odd-numbered year. The expiration date of your license will match your birth date. You can renew your license online on the Arkansas State Board of Barber Examiners website. They also include information relating to all the fees you will be expected to pay for your initial license, renewal and other aspects of licensure that require fees. The current cost of renewal is $50. When you apply for your initial license you will pay $75, which includes your exam fee.
